When Beethoven's Piano Concerto No.4 arrived on the Vienna scene in the early 1800s, it was described by one music periodical as "the most admirable, singular, artistic and complex Beethoven concerto ever." Find out why as Fairfax Symphony Orchestra presents a performance of the concerto with rising-star pianist Andrew Tyson behind the keys. The Juilliard alum has been lighting up stages around the world, inspiring BBC Radio to describe him as "a real poet of the piano." His solo work at George Mason University's Center for the Arts anchors a concert that also includes Beethoven's Leonora Overture No.3 from the composer's lone opera Fidelio, and Brahms' tragically beautiful Symphony No.4. Be sure to arrive early for a pre-concert conversation with WETA classical radio station host David Ginder and special guests.
